Created by Brenda Putnam in 1942, this medal portrays a boy about to launch a model airplane, about to discover whether or not it will fly. The reverse shows a bird in flight – the basic aspiration for one of humanity’s greatest achievements. The basic theme of the medal is humanity’s creative struggle to win supremacy in the air, in keeping with the historical background of World War II’s fighting and bombing taking place.
