The Legacy Series Living Traditions
Salish Sea Spindle Whorl Art inspired medallions

The great art legacy of Northwest Coastal Indians inspires CrabCat Studio's uniquely original interpretations of Salish, Tsimshian and Haida/Tlingit masterworks stemming from the 18th and 19th centuries. Inspired by ancient Puget Sound tribal and traditional northern style museum masterpieces, Crabcat Studio consists of Joseph Paul Illg and a small group of local artisans.

Producing hot and warm glass, fine GFRC sculpture, as well as working in pressure formed copper, silver and bronze, CrabCat Studio provides for the diverse needs of collectors, architects, landscape specialists and people in the design field.

The sculptural selections, inspired by 18/19th century Salish Sea Spindle Whorl Art, are inspired by Northwest Coast Indian heroes: raven, frog woman, bear, wolf, eagle, otter and whale. Sel Sel Tel Whorls, originally carved from wood, were joined with a spindle shaft. Ancient fiber artists collected and prepared mountain goat wool, and developed their yarn for loom work using an ancient spindle system. The Spindle Whorl Carvings motifs convey historical events and bring the joy of lively zoomorphic creations whose meaning is rooted in antiquity.

These beautiful 1¾ inch solid silver medallions are 3 Troy ounces of .999 pure silver. The first medallion features the otter/wolf on the obverse and the raven/frog on the reverse. The second medallion features the thunderbird/whale on the obverse and the raven/frog on the reverse.

These medallions are also available in gold via phone order at dedicated toll free number 833-MYMEDAL.
